That’s right, the banjo-strummin’, Mandarin-speakin’, folk-music playin’ and song-writin’ and singin’ First Lady of Sino-Old-Time music, Abigail Washburn (Nettwerk Records) will return to China for a third China tour, and this time, she’s got a name for her group! The Sparrow Quartet features the same lineup that blew away audiences in Beijing and Shanghai in 2005 (and across the US in ‘06): Casey Driessen (fiddle), Ben Sollee (cello), and, on the banjo, multi-Grammy winner, Bela Fleck.

The group’s 2006 China adventure also sees the musicians hit Tibet on their quest to bring old-time and traditional American music to the Middle Kingdom.
The Sparrow Quartet’s trip to China comes thanks to the support of the US State Department and the American Center for Educational Exchange in Beijing.
